Carlson Wagonlit Travel selects Cognos to power discovery tool

Johannesburg, 05 Feb 2002

Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT), a business travel management company with more than $12 billion in annual sales, has selected business intelligence company, Cognos` online analytical processing solution.

CWT will utilise Cognos PowerPlay for use in Discovery, its electronic reporting tool. Discovery, which delivers sophisticated travel expenditure reporting via the Web, is one component of CWT Symphonie, the first fully integrated travel management environment.

Deployment of Discovery with the Cognos business intelligence capability is scheduled for mid-2002.

Discovery currently serves more than 300 customers around the world with another 800 expected to come online by 2003. It is used by procurement and travel managers, as well as corporate executives, to track and research company use of and spending on air, hotel, and car services.

Integrating Cognos PowerPlay into Discovery, will allow end users to perform detailed, multidimensional analysis on large volumes of summarised travel-spending data in a Web, Windows, or Excel environment.

Cognos solutions allow users at any business or technical skill level in a company to perform their own multidimensional analysis, create reports, and share them for better decision-making - all with a minimum of IT administration," says Loren Brown, Global Chief Information Officer, CWT.

"Cognos has developed a business intelligence solution with excellent functionality and usability. This investment in Cognos will pay off."

"CWT offers clients a comprehensive, resourceful, and forward-thinking approach to business travel," says Alan Rottenberg, senior vice president, Cognos Analytic Applications. "We are pleased that CWT has selected Cognos solutions. This relationship further emphasises Cognos` ability to deliver competitive advantages across all industries."
