Cars to get black boxes

Scientists at Intel are developing a smart car fitted with aircraft-style black boxes that can record audio-visual (AV) information about driving behaviour during accidents, says the Economic Times.

The device will record information about the vehicle speed, steering and braking along with video footage from inside and outside the vehicle, researchers involved in the project say.

The information would be automatically sent to police and insurance companies in the event of an accident to make it easier to determine the cause of car crashes and identify the person responsible, they add.

Midwich, Peerless sign distribution deal

Midwich has signed a deal with Peerless Industries to distribute its professional-grade AV mounting products, writes CRN.

Gordon Dutch, vice-president of at Peerless Industries, says BBG, which merged with Peerless about a year ago, has had a relationship with Midwich for a number of years.

“We have come a very long way in just over a year since our merger with US-based Peerless Industries, and I believe this is another significant step forward,” he says.

Tech replaces textbooks in India

More and more schools in India are using technological aids for teaching, states Times of India.

From animated films to AV creations of their own, schools are adopting newer and creative ways to teach their students, replacing blackboards and textbooks with projectors and screens.

While the Millennium National School has created multimedia films for all lessons from kindergarten onwards, the Army Public School uses flash and animation for select topics while PowerPoint presentations are a regular feature in every classroom.
