CA`s advantage Gen 6.5 speeds development of J2EE applications, Web services

Accelerates software projects, ensures effective transition to Web-based business systems
Johannesburg, 24 Oct 2002

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) today announced the general availability of Advantage Gen for Enterprise Servers (Advantage Gen) release 6.5, a powerful solution that speeds development of J2EE applications and Web services on mainframe and Unix environments.

Through automatic generation of Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) for back-end servers, Advantage Gen 6.5 enables corporate development teams to quickly and effectively create J2EE applications. Robust XML proxy support enables rapid deployment of Web services solutions built on new and existing legacy and distributed applications.

"CA`s Advantage Gen 6.5 combines the flexibility of J2EE with the productivity of model-based development. Using Advantage Gen we have been able to help customers generate EJBs and deliver J2EE solutions 10 times faster than with other development methods," said Jay Wiener, president and CEO of CorTechs, Inc, a leading provider of quality assurance test automation software and services.

By separating business rules from specific technologies and platforms, Advantage Gen 6.5 enables customers to generate multiple business applications from the same underlying model as they add J2EE and Web services systems to their existing environments. Since development teams are liberated from the underlying complexity of these new technologies, they can concentrate on delivering effective applications that meet enterprise business requirements.

"CA`s Advantage Gen has a long and successful history of empowering IT departments to quickly deliver quality enterprise solutions using model-driven development techniques, which reflect OMG`s standard Model Driven Architecture," said Richard Soley, chairman and CEO of the Object Management Group. "Its incorporation of J2EE technology will help organisations take greater advantage of Web-based application infrastructure, including Web services, while at the same time leveraging existing information resources running on various legacy platforms."

EJBs generated by Advantage Gen 6.5 can interoperate with EJBs created from other sources to construct a business solution. A common staging area enables the final assembly and automatic deployment of EJBs. Combining the automated development and deployment environments provides customers with a proven solution for building new applications and transforming existing systems to J2EE and Web services.

"We are delighted with the success our customers have had using Advantage Gen to deliver enterprise-class J2EE solutions for mainframe and Unix environments," said Ricardo Antuna, CA vice-president of marketing. "Advantage Gen continues to deliver exceptional value with its proven ability to accelerate development, reduce maintenance costs, and leverage existing technology investments."

In support of its commitment to multi-platform application development and deployment, CA announced plans for upcoming releases of Advantage Gen to include support for .Net.
