CA`s eTrust Antivirus gains Microsoft certification

Johannesburg, 11 Jun 2002

Computer Associates (CA) has advised that its eTrust Antivirus suite has become the first anti-virus software solution to achieve certification for Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server.

eTrust Antivirus has also been certified on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server - making it the first anti-virus solution to be certified across two versions of Microsoft`s flagship operating system platform.

eTrust Antivirus defends organisations against the costly and damaging effects of virus outbreaks.

Backed by CA`s eTrust Antivirus Research Centers around the globe and certified by ICSA Labs for detection of 100% of "in-the-wild" viruses.

"To achieve this certification, eTrust Antivirus met the rigorous requirements of Microsoft`s `Certified for Windows` programme through VeriTest, the testing division of Lionbridge Technologies," confirmed Mark Smissen, CA Africa`s eTrust brand manager.

"This certification programme includes standards for secure, manageable, and reliable solution operation on Windows 2000 Server products. Applications certified for Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Edition are specifically tested for reliability, high availability, and fault tolerance on servers with up to 32 processors," he says.

In addition to these intensive technical requirements, vendors must also successfully pass an audit of their around-the-clock, live technical support.

International comment

Jeff Price, senior director, Microsoft Corporation, says: "Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is used to support a company`s most critical applications, which makes effective antivirus protection for these systems an absolute must. By meeting Microsoft`s high standards for Datacenter Server certification, CA has demonstrated its commitment and ability to deliver this essential protection with the requisite enterprise-class platform integration and scalability."

Ed Adams, vice president, VeriTest, says: "CA is one of a select group of vendors who have successfully met the stringent criteria of Microsoft`s Windows 2000 Server certification. This certification provides Microsoft customers with the assurance that CA`s eTrust Antivirus is ready to support their business-critical applications, as validated by a trusted independent testing authority.
