CA's InoculateIT 6.0 ensures no compromise on service levels

Today's most prevalent security threat is undoubtedly that posed by viruses. And, as e-businesses face a major challenge as they attempt to enforce security policies and prevent the spread of virus infections in an environment where new threats are continually emerging, companies have to take care that levels of service are not compromised.

The security management features of Computer Associates' new InoculateIT 6.0 for Windows do just this, says Matthew Barker, CA product manager at Workgroup, the specialist software company in the Siltek IT Supply Chain Group.

"New policy enforcement mechanisms avert dangerous gaps in virus protection by preventing the disabling or altering of critical anti-virus settings. With centralised event logging and alerting, IT staff are immediately notified of virus incidents, allowing them to take immediate action before problems proliferate across the enterprise or to valued customers and business partners," he explains

InoculateIT 6.0 for Windows provides real-time, enterprise-wide protection empowering businesses to effectively defend critical resources from the damaging and costly effects of virus infections.

"What's more, Inoculate IT 6.0 for Windows includes CA's multiple heuristics-scanning engines which ensures double the protection and provides comprehensive virus detection across the entire organisation," says Barker. "The manageability and deployment capabilities of InoculateIT, with its new multi-tiered architecture, eases the administration of any sized implementation - from global enterprises to personal desktops. An innovative, low-overhead discovery feature enables security managers to view configurations and distribute virus 'signature' settings without placing undue strain on network resources," he explains.

InoculateIT 6.0 for Windows is part of CA's acclaimed eTrust Internet Defense solutions. Separately priced Workgroup and Advanced Editions are available for small to large-sized organisations.

Barker adds that special pricing is available to companies who are currently utilising another anti-virus product, and who wish to switch to Inoculate IT 6.0.

"Companies need anti-virus solutions that are easy to deploy, manage and update," he says. "InoculateIT fulfils these requirements superbly."

"In addition, there are huge cost savings due to CA's approach of providing Virus definition updates for life. This means the customer owns the software, and CA will continually provide virus definition files for life, at no additional cost, regardless of the version they have purchased."

CA also plans to integrate InoculateIT 6.0 with third-party technologies and platforms, such as EMC's Celerra File Server network attach storage solutions, creating an end-to-end defence against malicious code.

Additional InoculateIT 6.0 for Windows enhancements include:

  • Real-time detection with automatic cure that provides continual virus protection with special cleaning procedures included in signature updates - thus eliminating the need for manual removal steps or specialised utilities

  • Incremental signature updates and zero downtime distribution to ensure that systems are always protected

  • Digitally signed binaries that maximise the integrity of InoculateIT provided protection, and which automatically check runtime modules for tampering or spoofing before they are loaded into memory

  • An LDAP-enabled data repository for complete access and integration with existing technologies

  • The product comes with two scanning engines, InoculateIT Engine and Vet Engine

  • Incremental File Scanning meaning only scans file that have changed since last scan

  • Ability to disconnect machine from the Network that have been infected, once clean allow them back on

  • Drag and drop policies as well as policy enforcement

InoculateIT is widely recognised for providing leading protection against major Internet security attacks. PCWORLD.COM and Network Computing Magazine have recognised it for providing unparalleled protection against the recent and massively damaging "ILOVEYOU" virus. InoculateIT has also received Virus Bulletin's "VB100%" and the International Computer Security Association (ICSA) certification for detecting 100% of "in-the-wild" viruses, ensuring a network is protected against potentially damaging and costly virus incidents.

In addition, its releases of InoculateIT and Vet Anti-Virus for the Windows 2000 platform have independently received Virus Bulletin's acclaimed "VB 100%" award for successfully detecting all "in-the-wild" viruses during comprehensive testing of anti-virus products.

Virus Bulletin, the international publication on computer virus prevention, recognition and removal, tests each vendor's solution for its ability to detect viruses listed on the February 2001 WildList - a list of viruses known to be currently "in-the-wild" - through both on-demand and on-access scanning. The Virus Bulletin tests and award are widely recognised as an industry standard for excellence.
