Computer Associates International, Inc today announced that Simon Perry, CA`s vice-president of Security Strategy, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), has been appointed by the executive director of the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) to be a member of the organisation`s Permanent Stakeholder Group.
The Permanent Stakeholder Group was formed to advise the executive director and the management board on security-related issues in software and hardware products, as well as to play an integral role in shaping the direction of ENISA`s programme and priorities.
With more than 17 years` experience in the software industry, Perry is an internationally recognised authority and speaker on corporate and personal electronic asset protection. He works closely with CEOs, CIOs, CSOs and industry and financial analysts on emerging security threats and the techniques and technologies needed to counter them.
"I am delighted to have been selected to sit on the ENISA Permanent Stakeholders Group and am looking forward to helping the agency form its work programme and meet its objectives," said Perry. "CA believes that protection of the shared ICT critical infrastructure is of vital importance to the continued growth of the EU, and the economies of the 25 EU member states. The security, integrity and trustworthiness of networks is paramount to ensuring that Europe achieves its Lisbon Goals of making Europe the most knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010."
A UK citizen, 37-year-old Perry has worked at CA for nine years, initially as a software engineer at the company`s Australian subsidiary. In 1998 he transferred to CA`s Islandia, New York corporate headquarters where he led the product management and marketing team for CA`s newly formed eTrust brand.
During this time, Perry helped pinpoint the market requirement for security management products, and was instrumental in identifying the convergence trend between management of physical and IT security. In 2003, Perry re-located to CA`s EMEA regional headquarters in the UK, where he has actively evangelised CA`s holistic security management approach to customers, partners and public bodies throughout Europe.
Perry`s early experience of managing security in complex IT environments was gained working at some of Australia`s leading organisations including Commonwealth Bank, Australia`s second largest bank, Caltex Oil, Australia`s largest petrochemical and refining company, and telecommunications company AAPT.
Perry has addressed the FBI and US and European defence forces on security trends and electronic crime prevention. He is regularly sought out to provide analysis on security trends and incidents and their impact to businesses and the public. He has appeared on a number of broadcast channels, spoken at many events and been quoted in worldwide publications and news services.
