Casey, the JSE-listed technology group, has announced that its business solutions division is to launch a valet service for its clients and potential clients in a move designed to minimise system downtime, increase overall IT efficiencies, and combat the increasing threat from computer viruses. The service is particularly aimed at the SMME (Small Medium & Micro Enterprises).
The service covers overall "troubleshooting and general maintenance work in the office environment", including conducting regular checks on office PCs, checking and combating the threat of computer viruses, conducting hard disk clean-ups and restorations, checking and fixing application software, and ensuring that networks are fully optimised.
"One of the most tiresome and potentially disruptive problems facing the business world at large, in particular SMMEs - as they often don`t have the necessary software security firewalls - is the increase in the number of computer viruses being unleashed every month, every week and almost every day," said Tom Muller, from the onsite division.
He said assisting SMMEs to combat viruses - and sort out virus-related problems - will be one of the main focuses of the division`s recently-launched valet service.
"Smaller companies cannot always afford to maintain their PCs and computer networks, but yet their IT systems are critical to their success. Our valet service, while not pretending to be a surrogate IT department, nonetheless gives the small to medium-sized enterprises the access to the necessary expertise, without costing an arm and a leg."
Customers will be charged a small monthly fee for the privilege. The Casey group of companies straddles hardware distribution, outsourcing, after-sales maintenance, networking, consulting and the provision of Internet-based services, such as web design and web hosting.
