Casio unveils mercury-free projectors

Casio has introduced what it claims are the world's first 2000+ ANSI lumens projectors, as part of its Green Slim range, reports AV Interactive.

It has unveiled a mercury-free hybrid light source capable of generating brightness by combining a laser, a phosphor and an LED.

To date, high-pressure projector lamps capable of producing 2000 or more ANSI lumens have contained environmentally harmful mercury. Laser and LED semiconductor light sources do offer mercury-free solutions, but because high-output sources capable of producing green light have not been feasible for mass production, they have only been applicable for small, low-lumen projectors.

Calls for EU online piracy crackdown

The European Audiovisual Social Dialogue Committee, whose members include the International Federation of Film Producers Associations and the Association of Commercial Television in Europe, want improvements to the EU's legal framework which could see the introduction of specific legislation to protect copyright holders, states The Telegraph.

The group also wants increased pressure on service providers to help participate in the fight against illegal filesharing across their networks.

Furthermore, the group is calling from more research focused on the financial impact of unlawful filesharing and how that can then be linked to job losses.

Caribbean gets 3D media network

Provision Interactive Technologies has shipped Holovision, its 3D holographic display platform, to Kariba Enterprises for deployment in the Caribbean, says CNNMoney.

Kariba offers a variety of kiosks focused on consumer products and works closely with area hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and other retailers. Provision's Holovision will be the first 3D digital media network in the Caribbean and will be supported by Kariba's already significant distribution footprint.

In response to the news, multinational packaged foods company Nestl'e has committed to advertising Nescaf'e, a leading brand of instant coffee, across Kariba's advertising network.
