Catch fast-moving scenes with LG plasma TV

Johannesburg, 14 Jul 2006

LG Electronics, one of the leading global players in the plasma and LCD TV market, has launched its latest innovative product, the new 50-inch HD-ready plasma TV. The plasma TV (model 50PC1R) has an original and interesting multifunction, which has already attracted many techno-savvy consumers who wanted to buy a new TV for the Soccer World Cup.

With XD engine, the core technology used by LG to ensure the best picture quality, the 50PC1R enhances all of the generally recognised strong points of plasma compared with other types of TVs. This includes ultra-high 10 000:1 contrast, completely free viewing angle, no blurring and ghosting for fast moving scenes and natural and accurate colour representation.

Says Shethal Bedal of LG Electronics South Africa: "This new TV is ideal for watching sport and movies, as its simple but powerful features offer all of the major factors consumers consider before purchasing a new TV: picture quality, design, interface and even price. All of these factors, coupled with the technology used, make your favourite movie seem real. Users can catch all the fine details for even the darkest scene in a movie. Moreover, everyone watching the movie shares the same picture quality, regardless of where he or she is sitting. Nobody on the TV will escape from the viewer`s eye, no matter how quick a movement may be. Even tears streaming down the cheek look completely natural, shown in a natural transparent colour, not like those commonly seen in cartoon animations."

SH Yoon, President of LG Electronic`s Digital Display Company, unveiled the company`s strategy in the display area at the launch of the 50PC1R. He said: "By launching the ground-breaking PC1 series, LG Electronics has revamped its premium image in the flat panel display market, by offering market-leading picture quality and functions to everyday consumers."

The 50PC1R`s modern design features a slim and sleek body, with a trendy black and silver combination. The frame looks solid with a glossy finish and has a curved design that fits into any household. Two slim, high-quality speakers are well positioned on both sides, so as not to interrupt viewing pleasure. Thanks to these qualifications, the PC1 series has already been awarded with the iF Design Award 2006 and reddot Design Award 2006, two of the greatest design awards in Europe. The 50PC1R is also a `future-proof` model, with an HD Ready WXGA progressive panel (1366x768) and easy connection to either an HD set top box or Blue-ray/HD-DVD players via HDMI connection. With HDMI connection, viewers can enjoy the best picture and sound quality using a single cable. If a user`s current AV system doesn`t support HDMI, he or she still can enjoy high quality picture through component input. As a result, the 50PC1R is ideal for all possible AV connections.

Bedal says: "A recent article in the Economic Daily News reported that the 50-inch plasma TV segment is set to become mainstream in the flat panel TV market in the near future, with price becoming competitive against smaller-sized plasma TVs. Panel makers are migrating to next-generation plasma production, so production costs are likely to decrease further. With this in mind, LG`s goal is to become number one in the global display market by 2010. To achieve this, we will continue to focus on securing our leadership in technology and new standards."
