Catch up with the new economy at e-Commerce World

Johannesburg, 03 Nov 2000

It took 40 years for to reach the 50 million listener level in the US. TV took 13 years and cable 10 years to reach the same level of viewers. The has already far surpassed this! So reports David Aldridge of OpenSite Technologies, a pioneer in interactive Internet auction solutions.

The implications of this are huge and wide ranging. The commercial potential is astounding. Driving this rampant penetration is business innovation and real commercial applications, or in simpler terms, electronic commerce. It is clear that e-business is the most important opportunity facing business today and that new age e-business is now far beyond just taking orders via a web-site.

The Electronic Commerce World Africa 2000 exhibition and conference that opens at the MTN Sundome on Wednesday 8 November 2000 will highlight the fundamentals of the new economy. Debbie Bakos, the event`s project director comments "There are new technologies and techniques that businesses must adopt and master to gain commercial advantage in the new economy. E-Commerce World Africa is where businesses will find the solutions to cement their e-commerce strategies". The event runs for 3 days till Friday 10 November 2000.

Joining companies like Prism, Nokia, MTN, Telkom, Deloitte & Touche, Arthur Andersen, Hewlett Packard, Oracle, Nanoteq and Computer Associates are a host of leading suppliers showing their latest offerings and advancements for e-business solutions, e-CRM, application services, e-business vertical solutions, enterprise solutions, e-mail management, intranet solutions, electronic commerce systems, internet , supply chain automation, systems integration and web-site design and development.

Andile Ngcaba, Director General of the Department of Communications, who will officially open the event on Wednesday morning said "E-commerce and e-communications will change the architecture of communications infrastructures and business!"

For those wanting a concise and informative overview of the latest trends in Internet and e-commerce strategy, E-Commerce World is offering free daily seminars on the exhibition floor. Internet authority, Arthur Goldstuck, and his team of strategists and researchers will be conducting these daily at 10.30am and 12.30pm.

E-Commerce World Africa will be co-located with three other major industry events - Mobile Commerce World Africa 2000, Cards Africa 2000 and iSEC - Information Security - Africa 2000. Commenting on the four events Bakos says, "The synergy this co-location creates is very valuable. Together e-commerce, mobile commerce, smart cards and information security represent all the technologies and enabling tools crucial to the growth of the digital economy. Unlike some of the other larger or multiple profile exhibitions, our show offers business people an opportunity to really evaluate what e-technology can do for their businesses. Visitors can view and compare all the latest e-business technologies under one roof."

The highlight of this event is the CEO Visionary Panel day taking place on 8 November 2000. The panel is a series of high-level strategy sessions each led by the e-business industry`s visionaries and pioneers. Under discussion will be the South African business case for e-commerce and m-commerce, security as an enabler, and the implications of the convergent marketplace.
