CBC cuts up to 800 jobs

Public broadcaster CBC will be cutting up to 800 jobs worldwide as part of a major downsizing, reports Home.

The CBC expects to layoff 393 workers in its English services - including , TV and new media platforms - and 336 employees in French services beginning in May. An additional 70 jobs will be lost at the corporate level.

Richard Stursberg, executive vice-president of English services, informed employees that although CBC's English service has already cut $50 million from programming, a total of $85 million would still have to be cut, about $14.4 million from radio and $70.3 million from television.

AT&T drives satellite radio

RaySat Broadcasting has formed strategic alliances with six technology and service providers to deliver the AT&T CruiseCast service for in-vehicle mobile television and radio service, states Multichannel News.

AT&T CruiseCast will provide 22 TV and 20 satellite radio channels, including Disney Channel, Toon Disney, Discovery Kids, Animal Planet, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Mobile, USA, Comedy Central, MSNBC, CNN Mobile Live and CNBC.

Suppliers for the service include satellite operator Intelsat; ST Electronics, which provides the circuitry that enables the line-of-sight blockage protection for the service; and Hyundai Digital Technology, which makes the in-vehicle receiver used by the service.

Netmix broadcasts on Nokia network

Indie Ranch Media's wholly owned subsidiary, Netmix Broadcasting Network, is now broadcasting through the Nokia Mobile Network, says FoxBusiness.

The Nokia Internet Radio service consists of the station directory and the device player allowing users to discover different channels categorised under genre, country, and language. The device player is available for Nokia S60 3rd edition devices and Nokia Internet Tablet.

Further discussions, including utilising the Netmix Broadcasting Technology to expand the Nokia live content distribution in the near future as Netmix begins deployment, are being pursued.
