CBC enters Indian TV market
Broadcaster CBS is the latest US media company to enter the fast-growing Indian television market, teaming up with a company backed by one of India's wealthiest men, says the Los Angeles Times.
CBS says that it had structured a 50-50 joint venture with Anil Dhirubhai Ambani's Reliance Broadcast Network that initially will host three English-language channels in India.
The pay television channels, expected to go on the air in October, will target India's younger and more affluent audiences, showcasing programmes that CBS owns.
Verizon seals deal with Time Warner
Verizon has signed a deal with Time Warner to obtain new online programming from Turner Broadcasting, notes RapidTVNews.
As part of its multi-platform Fios programme, Verizon has been having conversations with major content owners in the US including CNN and HBO, owned by Time Warner.
Verizon's Fios iPad app, confirmed earlier this week, will be available from the third quarter of 2010 and will enable subscribers to experience on-demand content on Apple's increasingly popular mobile platform.
Broadcasters deadlocked on Premier League
K+ and other television broadcasters have not reached an agreement on sharing broadcasting rights for English Premiere League (EPL) matches, VietnamNet reports.
However, the first match of the new EPL was carried on True Sports channel of HCTV on 15 August and some provincial TV channels like An Giang.
K+ and MP & Silva says it holds exclusive rights for Sunday matches in Vietnam, and as a result, HCTV was accused of illegally airing the match between Liverpool and Arsenal last Sunday.
