The Commonwealth Business Council today announced the creation of a network of eMarketplaces branded as the CBC Marketplace Network. The CBC Marketplace Network initiative is being driven by the Commonwealth Business Council`s vision of an open Commonwealth wide eCommerce ecosystem based on interoperability between hundreds of participating eMarketplace platforms in each of the 54 countries that are members of the CBC.
CBC Marketplace Network (www.CBCmarketplace.Net) provides a single web eMarketplace hub to enable businesses within and outside of the Commonwealth countries to conduct business with members of eMarketplaces located within or serving the Commonwealth nations. The CBC Marketplace Network will be the first international marketplace of eMarketplaces, providing both domestic and global access to companies participating in eMarketplaces in developed and developing economies within a trusted electronic business-to-business environment.
Dr Mohan Kaul, Director General of the Commonwealth Business Council, said, "We are pleased to create the CBC Marketplace Network in partnership for eMarketplace operators and businesses in the Commonwealth countries. Businesses can use the CBC Marketplace Network as a central destination on the Internet to seek membership and participation in any registered eMarketplace, including our own international eMarketplace, CBCmarketplace.com. As a trusted third party, the CBC extends an open invitation to all business-to-business eMarketplace operators located within or serving the Commonwealth nations regardless of their technology platform or industry focus to connect their eMarketplaces to the CBC Marketplace Network."
Leading electronic business-to-business (eB2B) software solutions provider, Infobank Africa has become the first company in Africa and the Commonwealth to offer its portfolio of eMarketplaces and their trading communities to connect with the CBC Marketplace Network.
Dr Douglas Boateng, CEO of Infobank Africa, says, "The advent of eMarketplace and eBusiness services networks represents the next phase in the international growth of eCommerce. There are a wide range of synergies among the diverse global eMarketplaces and those in the Commonwealth. Our decision to be part of the CBC Marketplace Network is motivated by the business advantages and opportunities that will accrue to our clients, our partners and Africa."
Commonwealth Business Council
The Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) was established by the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in 1997 to involve the private sector in the promotion of international trade and investment. With over 25 percent of world trade originating in Commonwealth countries and with the increased mobility of capital, the comparative advantages which the world-wide network of Commonwealth nations brings to business are considerable. The CBC`s close relationship with governments and institutions enables it to present policy recommendations directly to leading decision-makers; promote public-private and business-to-business dialogue; and create substantial networking opportunities for Commonwealth countries.
