CCH unveils new initiatives to empower e-business

Johannesburg, 03 Mar 2000

CCH Enterprise Solutions, local Peregrine Systems representatives, has announced a broad range of e-initiatives that will use the to extend the benefits and availability of infrastructure management to E-businesses.

These initiatives will change the way Peregrine Systems delivers, implements and utilises its infrastructure management solutions to better serve businesses that require a reliable and predictable environment for conducting e-business.

"The new initiatives will harness the power of the Web so that e-businesses can realise their full potential. They will empower e-businesses to minimise the impact of e-commerce outages and proactively the entire lifecycle of corporate , from deployment through maintenance and finally to retirement," says Sue Sealtiel, Peregrine product manager at CCH Enterprise Solutions. "They will also use the Internet to deliver the infrastructure management solution directly to any company, anywhere, and enable even casual users to take advantage of our solution."

7 Peregrine Systems E-initiatives are comprised of four components that:

  • Optimise the infrastructure management of the Web

  • Open infrastructure management to everyone using the Web

  • Empower better ROI using e-procurement to enhance infrastructure management on the Web

  • Deliver infrastructure management to any business, anywhere

The Gartner Group estimates that 80% of e-commerce outages are caused by human error during periods of change, potentially resulting in a significant loss of money, credibility, customers and even market capitalisation. E-businesses are struggling to handle this fast pace of change in an environment that offers zero tolerance for downtime.

In order to manage change effectively within this environment, an organisation must understand what assets exist in the e-business environment, how they are performing, how much they cost and where hidden weaknesses and problem points are located.

The Peregrine Systems initiative for bringing infrastructure management to e-business systems draws upon proven solutions including:

  • AssetCenter manages the entire lifecycle of the asset from procurement or leasing through optimisation and disposal;

  • ServiceCenter provides rapid problem resolution and problem management, proactive change management and configuration;

  • InfraTools provides desktop and network discovery and systems management functionality including the ability to "alarm" the e-business network for early warnings against potential performance problems or outages;

  • ConnectPoint adapters provide integration to Tivoli TME, HP OpenView, CA UniCenter, Remedy ARS, SAP, PeopleSoft and Oracle applications, as well as an array of complementary partners products.

"Working together, these products provide an solution that helps e-businesses prevent system failures before they occur, quickly resolves problems if they occur and reduces the risk of changes to complex systems," adds Sealtiel.

"One of the primary benefits of infrastructure management is the ability to maximise the return on investment (ROI) by managing all aspects of the physical and fiscal lifecycle of assets. Peregrine Systems will now enhance the entry point of this lifecycle management by bringing e-procurement capabilities to the Web. The e-procurement application will allow any user to not only request and procure assets, but also start the asset lifecycle management process by automatically populating the corporate asset management database. Users will even be able to open up a service request to order set up and installation for any asset."

Peregrine Systems will introduce Web-hosted versions for all of the products in its infrastructure management suite. As an Application Service Provider (ASP), the company will provide its customers with a powerful solution that not only allows them to manage their infrastructure better, but also allows them to manage and control costs within a predictable budget. The Aberdeen Group states that by the end of the year 2000 approximately 30% of all business software applications will be available as a hosted version on the Web.

Peregrine Systems e-initiatives are driven by the belief that there must be a fundamental shift to serve the specific needs of e-business.

Infrastructure management solutions must take full advantage of the Web to help e-business achieve reliability and performance and maximise the ROI on IT assets. Peregrine Systems is committed to providing infrastructure management solutions that will proactively monitor and sustain the heartbeat of all e-business systems.
