Cebit 2006: Solutions for Work and Life is focusing on the merge between ICT and consumer electronics, telematics and logistics.

The ICT trade fair is in its 20th year, and runs from 9 to 15 March in Hannover, Germany.

Cebit shows off latest developments and trends in the ICT market, with systems, , hardware, network computing, Internet applications, multimedia, telecommunications, as well as home computing under the spotlight.

Organisers maintain this is the only platform that shows how solutions for work and leisure are starting to integrate; from business software and hardware to home and office communication solutions and digital entertainment.

Exhibitors` attention is on how technology is increasingly serving both the business and consumer worlds, highlighting how digital applications have found their way into the consumer sector and vice versa, with expectations that even stronger convergence trends are just around the corner.

Latest innovations

About 1 300 exhibitors, including Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Intel, LG, the Metrogroup, O2, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp and Sony, will offer insights into convergent solutions and showcase the latest innovations.

"To highlight the digital lifestyle theme, in tandem with exhibitors` stands and to show how different products work together, Cebit is creating an extra platform featuring hands-on solutions. The new `digital living` events are aimed at technology enthusiasts and the wholesale/retail trade, which is facing special challenges due to the increasing convergence of markets," organisers say in a statement.

SME platform

Cebit is also a platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which constitute the largest single visitor group this year, prompting exhibitors to offer an extended range of products, systems and services tailored to the specific investment requirements of SMEs. "Cebit Business Solutions" is presenting software products targeting this sector.

The Cebit programme includes a growing number of themed displays that address the practical needs of users. Each of the major display categories at Cebit comes with its own programme of forums, special events and hot topics, which serve to promote knowledge transfer and to build and strengthen communities.

This year`s fair features 6 200 exhibitors, from 71 countries, and is expected to draw more than 470 000 visitors from across the globe, event organisers say.

In total, 3 305 foreign companies are presenting products, systems and services.
