Actor Robert Redford and singer Steven Tyler have joined Intel CEO Craig Barrett and eBay CEO Meg Whitman, autographing two PCs to be auctioned on eBay for charity.

Tyler, Redford, Barrett and Whitman autographed the entertainment PCs to encourage consumers to rethink how they recycle technology products, as well as to adopt an environmentally conscious approach to disposing of old and used technology.

The two limited edition HP Entertainment PCs, powered by the Intel Pentium 4 processor with hyper-threading technology, will be available as from 24 January for auction on eBay.

Profits made will support the National Cristina Foundation (NCF), an organisation that encourages corporations and individuals to donate surplus and used technology, to be used by training and educational organisations nationwide.

NCF is in partnership with Rethink Initiative, a new programme that brings together industry, government, environmental groups and the eBay community to address "e-waste".

Tim Mohin, Intel`s director of sustainable development, says the "e-waste pile" is growing around the world and statistics show it runs into millions of tons annually.

"The auction will help raise for this important issue and support the Rethink Initiative in facilitating the responsible management of used technology around the world," says Mohin.
