Cell C has purchased 30 CowParade fibreglass cows for R3 million, to benefit the Childhood Cancer Foundation SA.
CowParade is an international programme in which artists decorate life-sized cows to raise funds for charity. The results of their efforts have been on show in local malls since September 2004.
About 400 guests have been invited to the auction, which will take place on 29 June at Nedcor in Sandton. Around 60 CowParade statues will be auctioned, including 15 of the Cell C art cows. The remaining 15 Cell C branded cows will be kept at the company`s offices.
Simon Camerer, head of marketing at Cell C, says the company`s involvement in CowParade underpins its sponsorship strategy and is a continuation of its innovative brand communication through local art.
"Cell C`s sponsorship of CowParade has enabled local artists to showcase their talents on a unique canvas. It has also served a broader purpose by contributing to awareness of the Childhood Cancer Foundation and the work which they do with children with cancer and their families," says Bridget Kieser, COO of CowParade SA.
Local artists whose work will be auctioned include Anton Brink, Velaphi Mzimba, Leigh Voigt, Chris Diedericks, Abie Mathabe, Diane Victor, Simon Addy and cartoonist Zapiro.
