Cell C has deployed its HSPA+ network in Welkom, Kroonstad and Koppies, extending its coverage in the Free State.

The latest expansion of the network now puts Cell C's national coverage at 63% of the South African population.

Mothibi Ramusi, Cell C head of regulatory affairs, says the company sees the expansion of the network as an economic enabler for millions of South Africans.

"We call upon the Free State community to engage with us and together develop sustainable enterprise initiatives towards the 2020 ICT vision.

“Broadband access impacts on almost all elements of everyday life, including healthcare, education, banking and employment opportunities.”

Ramusi adds that Cell C will continue to roll out its national infrastructure to facilitate school, medical facilities, government, citizens and sector connectivity plans.

Bodibeng Secondary School in Kroonstad and Lebogang Secondary School in Welkom also each received 10 Speedsticks and 60GB of (5GB per month for 12 months) per modem, as part of the launch of the network.

Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State, was the second city in the country to receive Cell C's HSPA+ network coverage almost a year ago.

Cell C says it is on track to reach its goal of 97% coverage by year-end, and has recently expanded its network in Paarl, Wellington, Kimberley and Mafikeng.
