Cell C is to launch a new competition that it hopes will take the teenage market by storm, as the operator seeks the country`s fastest SMSers.
The Fastest Fingers competition is a search for the fastest SMS typed on a mobile phone, and will run during youth television series Backstage on eTV at 6.30pm, between 6 and 10 December.
Cell C hopes to see thousands of youngsters attempting to break the Guinness World Record held by a British resident, who typed 26 words in 67 seconds last September.
The competition will run for a week, during which viewers will be asked to SMS a phrase that will flash on the screen during the Backstage show, and the fastest viewer to send the phrase to the number 35552 will be the winner for the day.
Daily winners will receive a Sony PlayStation 2, while the finalists will compete against each other on 18 December, with the overall champ walking away with R15 000.
Cell C says the competition has become a popular SMS game internationally, and in the local version, each daily phrase will have between 50 and 70 characters.
