Cellucity calls Integr8 IT for connective reinforcement

Johannesburg, 22 Aug 2002

Cellucity, an official Vodacom reseller and one of SA`s first cellular companies, has expanded its connective range with the help of network integration specialist Integr8 IT.

The cellular company offers clients a range of specialised cellular services including Vodacom contracts, Vodago prepaid cards, the latest phones and accessories.

When Cellucity acquired Rentafone, the company called in Integr8 IT to manage the Rentafone wide area network and migrate all outlets onto the Cellucity wide area network.

Says Gerhard Conradie, network engineer at Integr8 IT: "The migration was completed country-wide by early March. We configured and tested the Nortel routers used in the migration in Cape Town and then transferred the devices to Port Elizabeth, East London, George, Durban and Johannesburg. The move was planned for a Friday and went very smooth. By the end of the day nearly all the shops were reconfigured and operational."

The acquisition also presented Cellucity with a Citrix Metaframe XP Server. This was deployed to counter delays within the billing system. The system was designed to query and update the Microsoft SQL server based in the Waterfront, but was slow when running multiple connections across WAN links.

"The billing system was moved onto the Metaframe XP Server and rolled out to workstations at the remote sites. The Citrix server handled the Access-based billing system with ease and we were also able to publish the full Office suite to the desktops. Using Citrix greatly reduced the remote support, centralised the user data and made managing the remote sites a breeze," says Conradie.

According to Chris Henschel, Business Development Manager at Cellucity, the company has expended rapidly in the past year and become a multi-national cellular service vendor. A great deal of emphasis has been placed on ensuring connectivity in order to keep 17 branches online and take advantage of the business-to-business interfaces provided by Vodacom to its partners.

"Integr8 IT was selected as our IT support company and have thus far assisted us with the roll-out and maintenance of our WAN and with our acquisition this year of Vodashop Rentafone, making us the largest cellular rental company in southern Africa. Integr8 IT has been instrumental in providing their expertise of combining and configuring the companies networks into one cohesive unit. With the additional servers that we acquired, the company has assisted us in making maximum use of the technology and software platforms available, and a successful nationwide Citrix roll-out has resulted in major benefits for our company in terms of an increase in network and user efficiencies," explains Henschel.

"With the solid backbone of technical expertise our national SLA with Integr8 has been a true asset to our business," he adds.
