Mobile magazines, or "mobizines", could be the next killer application among cellphone users in SA, as M-Net reveals over 6 000 people have downloaded its Idols and Survivor mobizine applications.

"We offer Survivor news, video clips, previews of the next week`s show, wallpapers, and things like that," says Jason Probert, head of New Media at M-Net.

Added to this, 13 000 people are playing the Fantasy Survivor spin off of the popular reality TV show - another value-add cellphone .

The Survivor mobizine follows M-Net`s first effort at such a service, on the Idols reality music show, where cellular users were able to get profiles of contestants, the latest news and voting information, explains Probert.

He says the success of both the projects has led M-Net to believe that mobizines will be one of the biggest cellular applications in the near future.

In the Fantasy Survivor game, people choose for contestants to make up their "Survivor team", with the contestants earning points in each episode for various activities.

"It`s all about getting people involved in the show - not just sitting back and watching," says Probert. "We`re trying to create cross-platform entertainment services for our subscribers."

Content from deleted and unaired scenes is also available on the Survivor Web site, he says, for users to download.
