Secure Data, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group, and the southern African distributor for Centennial, today announced that JSE-listed Chemserve had chosen and installed Centennial Discovery.
JSE-listed Chemical Services Limited was one of the first companies in SA to gain a Microsoft Licence Management Compliance Certificate in 2001, confirming that it is fully licensed in terms of Microsoft software, following a successful software audit using Centennial conducted by Microsoft partner, Information & Image (Pty) Ltd.
This year, Chemical Services purchased Centennial from its Microsoft partner, Information & Image. With close to 1 000 PCs and servers connected to a nationwide wide area network, Centennial will enable Chemical Services to effectively manage its software and hardware assets over most of its 21-company network. Chemical Services is re-affirming its commitment towards effective software licence management and considers it a natural component of good corporate governance.
"The sophistication and low WAN traffic overhead of Centennial is the key factor to why Chemical Services selected this package," commented Brenda Nel, Director of Information & Image. "Since the software is so versatile in terms of its distribution capability, we had to physically visit only a couple of the nationwide sites to conduct the audit, saving a tremendous amount of time and expenses."
Through the use of Centennial's unique network discovery tool, not a single device on the network is missed. Each company's IT manager would distribute the audit agent via e-mail, with its progress monitored from a central server installed at Chemical Services head office in Bryanston, a process managed for them by Information & Image. As an ongoing process, Centennial will provide continuous feedback on hardware and software changes and additions, allowing Chemical Services to effectively manage its IT platform, seen as a key business tool and capacity creator within the company.
We have been very happy with the results of the previous year's software audit and we see the acquisition of the tool a great help in the tracking of software and hardware changes, within our environment. The tool will empower our IT managers to respond quickly to any unauthorised change in their responsible area," added Chris Kotze, group IT manager at Chemical Services.
Centennial Discovery, the next-generation network inventory-tracking tool, is the first network inventory-tracking tool that enables organisations to monitor:
* What IT assets are in place;
* Where they are physically located;
* How they are configured;
* When and what changes are made to them;
* Which software applications are installed; and
* How often is the software accessed?
Centennial Discovery was awarded a 'best buy' choice, earlier this year, by UK-based SC Magazine, one of the world's leading security publications.
