Centravoice, part of the Centratel group of companies, has signed a distribution agreement with Alcatel-Lucent, which will see the company distribute its voice and products to the enterprise market.

Offerings from the new partnership were launched yesterday at a function in Fourways.

Alcatel-Lucent's has multiple partners in SA, of which its longest-standing relationship is with premium partner Bytes Communication Systems (BCS). BCS has contributed significantly to the growth of the Alcatel-Lucent business within SA, as well as through its master distributor status across the entire African Continent.

Group MD Michael Aitken says Centravoice was awarded distributor status based on its strong African footprint. Centratel bills itself as the largest ICT distributor on the African continent.

The new agreement with Alcatel-Lucent will enable Centravoice to expand its reseller channels, he says.

The deal also enables Centravoice to consolidate its offerings and strengthen its business case. "In markets that are on a mature phase, companies are looking for ways to be able to buy more products cheaper."

Speaking at the launch, Alcatel-Lucent South and East Africa GM for enterprise and verticals Eddie McAlone reiterated the company's commitment to the enterprise business. "I know there were rumours that we are getting out of the enterprise business, but we're heavily invested in enterprise."

McAlone said that, globally, the enterprise accounts for almost 10% of Alcatel-Lucent's overall revenue. Plans are in motion to double this figure, he added.
