As it has done since our inception, the SYSPRO product continues to evolve. During the second quarter of this year, we will release SYSPRO 6.0 Issue 010 Service Pack 1.
We chose this name (rather than Issue 011, for example) because moving from Issue 010 to Service Pack 1 is such a straightforward process. There is no upgrade or conversion to speak of - you simply put the CD into your PC, install the software and carry on working.
I mentioned the evolution of the product earlier. Well, simple and straightforward though it may be, Service Pack 1 takes SYSPRO to a whole new level. There are three brand-new modules as well as other fundamental changes.
The three new modules are Load Planning, Contact Management, and Families and Groupings, but more about that later. For now, I would like to focus on the user interface. The user interface in Service Pack 1 is far more customisable than anything we've been able to offer you before.
Issue 010 took steps in this direction by incorporating scripting capabilities and being able to modify how forms behave. The new technology we have used in Service Pack 1 goes much further, letting you 'dock' elements of your workspace. There simply are no limitations. You can select a window and position it anywhere on the screen, to the point of creating new tabs. You can resize and move forms within a window, move or delete panels and hide content. The data is the same as in Issue 010, but the look and feel is radically different. In essence, you can clean up your interface, and make it look exactly the way you want it to, as each desktop can be styled to meet individual tastes.
List views are used extensively within SYSPRO to show rows of data, and these have been extensively reworked for Service Pack 1 to give you greater control over how the data appears. Finally, the user interface can be linked to 'roles'; this allows the administrator to modify and 'lock down' how forms and list views are presented to an operator in SYSPRO.
A quick word on the new modules - Families and Groupings allows you to aggregate forecasts at a level other than the Stock Keeping Unit (SKU), whereas Contact Management lets you manage your contacts from within the core SYSPRO product. Once again, the new technology embedded in Service Pack 1 has enabled tight integration with the Microsoft Office suite of products, so that you can view your SYSPRO data from any of those applications.
Load Planning is designed to give assistance in determining when orders can be delivered, and in improving the actual picking and loading of goods for subsequent delivery. The use of this system is optional, and is controlled by options in Sales Order setup. As you can see, exciting times lie ahead. I am confident you will find that Service Pack 1 makes a meaningful difference to daily productivity, efficiency and sheer enjoyment of the product. As always, I encourage you to use our Support Zone (sign up at www.syspro.com) to understand more about this upcoming release.
