Planet3 Wireless has launched a service centre for certification training in wireless networking at what it describes as SA`s first certified wireless education centre in Pretoria.
The training is being launched in collaboration with Knowledge Systems UK, Advent College SA and I-data.
The Wireless Training Academy will form a Certified Wireless Networking Professional (CWNP) education centre in Africa and will promote the full CWNP program as a flagship product.
The Wireless Training Academy already offers a range of communications courses in the data, telecom and mobile sectors. However, the growth in demand for certification training in wireless networking prompted the launch of the vendor-neutral program to teach network engineers a standard body of knowledge for wireless LANs.
Academy director Jacqui Fourie says the CWNP fills a gap in the communications training field. "Our mandate is to promote the program throughout the whole of Africa by offering both public and on-site training. We also aim to introduce a Wi-School program for specific high schools in the region and to provide the certified wireless LAN administration curriculum and courseware to these schools free of charge."
Academy principal Charl van der Merwe says the academy has had inquiries from virtually every country in Africa, and that at least one additional training centre is planned for central Africa.
CWNP provides skills accreditation for four distinct job roles within the wireless LAN arena: administrator, security professional, network integrator and expert.
The first public administrator course is scheduled for 26 May and the security professional course should be available in Africa by July. For more information, go to http://www.wirelessacademy.org.
