Samsung has gone from being one of many voices in South Africa to one of the leading brands in the country.
Everywhere you look there they are, loud and bold. This is one company that has taken a sharp look at the market, divined what it needs, and delivered.
"Samsung has spent a lot of time working with the channel in South Africa to ensure that they bring the right products to the right markets," says Levina de Matos, Samsung product manager at Tarsus Technologies. "Their strategy to give SA their full attention, and to create products that match the needs of this market, has paid off in spades."
Certainly, the release of the extraordinarily good-looking Samsung ATIV Smart PC is right on the money. According to Adobe (1), Web sites across the globe are now receiving more traffic from tablets than smartphones. Not by a huge margin, but enough to make the design specs on the ATIV Smart PC appropriate for the user. What's also interesting is that reports are coming in that sales on tablet devices are higher than those on smartphones - eBay (2) put tablet spend at around £154 per device over the £85 per smartphone.
"This translates to a booming market that shows no sign of slowing down," adds De Matos. "Tablet solutions such as the ATIV Smart PC can be used for both personal and business tasks, and are light enough to be easily transported to and from the office."
Not only that, but the hybrid market is growing rapidly with many vendors delivering solutions that take advantage of the flexibility that the tablet design offers. The ATIV Smart PC is one such solution. It blends the usability of the notebook with the lightweight and ultraportable nature of the tablet to create a device that can be converted to match whatever the user needs.
Then there is the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro that boasts 11 inches of gorgeous high-definition screen, along with plenty of processing power and the same clever hybrid design. The ATIV Smart PC has an Intel Atom processor Z2760, the Smart PC Pro has an Intel Core i5 - it can take the tasks given by professionals and complete them without a single bead of sweat.
The two hybrids offer Windows 8 as the operating system, which has gained 7.4% of the global tablet operating system market in the year since it first arrived, according to Strategy Analytics' Global Tablet OS Market Share: Q1 2013 (3) report. Not too shabby for an operating system that's had to elbow its way past the two titans that fill up most of the room.
"Samsung has consistently delivered devices that fit into their 'smart' remit," concludes De Matos. "Remember how the Galaxy S II set a record for Samsung in terms of global sales? They have capitalised on this success, and their latest range of Smart products is set to take the South African market by storm."
Gartner's predictions for the tablet market continue to extol its praises - a 69.8% year-on-year growth in 2013 - and Samsung continues to develop powerful tablet solutions. The channel can relax safe in the knowledge that this company is committed to working with dealers and distributors in Africa to ensure a seamless channel experience, with the right tools and plenty of support (1).
