The ICT empowerment charter working group is to consider the Department of Trade and Industry`s (DTI`s) Code of Good Practice, which is in the hands of various stakeholders, before finalising the draft charter. However, the code is not yet available for public viewing.
Early this year, several groups within the ICT industry called for the charter`s guidelines to be more closely aligned with the DTI`s Code of Good Practice to assist those groups that were regulated by both sets of guidelines.
Last week, Joe Mjwara, chairman of the ICT empowerment charter steering committee, told ITWeb that the working group was awaiting the DTI`s code before making a few consequential amendments so as to ensure alignment and harmonisation.
"The publication of the code is in the pipeline and [it] is expected to be released in a week or two. However, it must be emphasised that there is commitment from all parties involved, and there will be a number of adjustments to be made to the charter," says Mjwara.
"There is no crisis with regards to releasing the charter as a document that will guide the black economic empowerment activities in the industry, as we have provisionally approved the charter," he says.
