Check Point introduced streaming technology that it claims increases anti-virus and URL filtering software blades' performance, at its CXP 2010 event, in London, yesterday.

The company says this will benefit its gateways through a software upgrade at no additional cost.

It has also extended its patented SecureXL acceleration technology, which it claims enables a 10-fold increase in VPN/security performance, to its unified threat management, UTM-1 appliances, in a move it says will boost firewall throughput performance.

Dorit Dor, VP of products at Check Point, says the company aims to challenge itself, and provide technologies that deliver improved security and performance.

She says customers can deploy Check Point anti-virus and URL filtering software blades on their existing gateways, without compromising performance or security.

“Performance and throughput are important factors for businesses to remain protected, maximising all levels of security, without impeding the flow of business,” she notes.

Check Point says its streaming technology enables up to 20 times anti-virus throughput improvement, with over 1Gbps for a two-core system and 3Gbps for a four-core system. “It also enables up to 80 times anti-virus and URL filtering connection capacity improvements with over 500 000 million concurrent connections.”

She says, for organisations currently running Check Point software blades, SecureXL technology boosts firewall throughput performance for UTM-1 appliances with a simple software upgrade, offering gains such as up to four times greater firewall performance, and up to four times connections per second improvement.
