Cyber criminals prey on SMEs because they lack sophisticated security, says Check Point.

Check Point Software has unveiled its 600 Appliances offering, set to deliver security solutions to protect small businesses against cyber attacks.

According to Check Point, cyber security is a growing challenge for small businesses; cyber criminals prey on them because they lack sophisticated security. According to a Verizon report, of the 621 confirmed data breaches studied, close to half occurred at companies with fewer than 1 000 employees, while 193 incidents were at entities with fewer than 100 workers.

The software provides an affordable, all-in-one security solution with performance of 1.5Gbps of firewall throughput and 37 Security Power units.

"Cyber attacks on SMEs in SA are on the rise. It's no longer just the larger businesses that are being attacked; companies with 100 employees or fewer are also lucrative targets, and no business sector is immune," cautions Doros Hadjizenonos, sales manager at Check Point SA.

"With limited resources, small businesses are often not equipped to deal with the expert cyber criminal. The 600 Appliances solutions solves this problem and offers small businesses an inexpensive, yet comprehensive, security solution that provides secure access to critical resources anywhere, any time, while minimising the risk of a data breach."

The solution comes preloaded with enterprise-class capabilities, including firewall, a virtual private network (VPN), an intrusion prevention system (IPS), anti-virus, anti-spam, application control and URL filtering.

According to the company, 600 Appliances is easy to set up and manage, even by non-IT professionals. Web-based management options are offered via an intuitive user interface, and with security policies predefined, small businesses can get their security up and running in a matter of minutes, says Check Point.

Some of the key features include one device for Internet access, network connectivity and security, firewall, IPS, next-generation firewall and threat prevention capabilities, and multiple wireless access networks. This enables guest access to the Internet while limiting access to the corporate network, Check Point explains.

The 600 Appliances offering is available in three models - 620, 640 and 680 - at prices starting from R3 592.
