Check Point Software Technologies has acquired Nokia's security appliance business for an undisclosed amount. The deal is expected to be concluded in the first quarter of 2009.
The Internet security provider wants to build on the long collaboration it has created with the cellular provider. Check Point says the acquisition, which should be completed by March, will boost sales by more than $100 million (or R940 million) in 2009.
"As a pioneer in security appliances, the Nokia security appliance business has been an important strategic partner for Check Point and has helped us achieve early leadership in the security appliance market," says Check Point chairman and CEO Gil Shwed.
Shwed says the addition of Nokia's security appliance portfolio into Check Point's broad range of security solutions will be of benefit to their mutual customers. Check Point plans to develop, manufacture and support an extended security appliance portfolio.
Nokia and the Internet security developer have been providing the industry with symbiotic security solutions, according to a statement by Check Point.
"Check Point is looking forward to expanding its security portfolio and to continuing to provide customers and partners with the industry's most comprehensive line of security appliances," concludes Shwed.
