Black empowerment networking company Choice Technologies, a member of JSE-listed Dimension Data Group, has been awarded the highest - Gold - partnership status by 3Com Corp.
Over the past five years, Choice Technologies has risen to become one of South Africa`s leading black networking solutions providers and a major supplier of IT services to government and private sector companies.
It has followed an operating plan which included the formation of strategic alliances with key vendor partners, pooling resources and skills with them in a bid to more adequately address its target markets.
Choice`s strategy includes a strong emphasis on skill development, training and education.
Choice MD, Semela Tseka, says: "We have invested heavily in the upliftment of our technical staff to the point where we now have the necessary skills to ensure the support and technical backup of 3Com networks."
Tseka says Choice is geared to play a major role in the emerging southern African Internet economy and is working with 3Com to develop markets for 3Com`s high-growth LAN technologies. These include remote and wireless access, Web-based solutions, high speed LAN switching, total Ethernet connectivity and others.
"Together with 3Com, we`re looking at potential customers with requirements in these areas where Choice already has an established and commanding marketplace position," he says.
3Com`s general manager for sub-Saharan Africa, Buddie Ceronie, says 3Com`s business strategy is to deliver the most radically simple, web-enabled solutions in the industry and target customers who value simplicity in network solutions.
"We intend to win market share with logical solutions based on the newest, highest-growth technologies developed internally or by best-in-class third parties.
"In partnering with Choice Technologies, we will address commercial, industrial, consumer and government organisations that cannot justify a large staff of highly trained information technology professionals to maintain their networks," he adds.
