In recognition of its sales success in the local network router and switch market, Choice Technologies, a privately-owned BEE IT systems and integration company, has received a `JV-Co product range` award from networking giant, 3Com.
The award - recently presented at a ceremony in London - stems primarily from Choice Technologies` drive to position the products created by the joint venture between 3Com and China-based network solutions provider, Huawei, in the European, Middle Eastern and African (EMEA) region. It also reflects Choice Technologies` marked investment in sales and technical training for the South African team.
"As part of the adjudication process, the router and switch sales of 3Com authorised partners in more than 30 countries across EMEA were evaluated. Choice Technologies [already 3Com`s partner of the year in SA] came out tops," explains Wayne Parkes, the company`s general manager of sales.
"This is significant because it represents a great achievement for a South African company, certainly when you consider the level of international competition involved. It also validates 3Com, Huawei and Choice`s positioning in the burgeoning small to medium enterprise (SME) market. We are also continuing to be active in the enterprise network space."
Of the new joint venture products finding favour in southern African, the 3Com Switch 7700 series stands out. Aimed at companies with 500 to 1 500 network users, the 7700 series is a family of high-speed Ethernet local area network (LAN) switches that offers embedded security, high availability and support for the IEEE`s 802.1x standards.
"Our plan for the near future is to build on the success we`ve had with the joint venture`s product range to create even further inroads into the local SME and enterprise spaces," explains Parkes.
"As the breadth of the solution set expands, we can identify and target new markets. We anticipate this growth to be fuelled by the demand for higher-speed networking solutions in smaller companies, wider adoption of IP telephony and converged network solutions, and the rapid proliferation of wireless LANs."
