The CIO Forum, in partnership with the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will be hosting the Inaugural Annual Software Week and associated activities from 13 to 19 October.
According to the CIO Forum, the event aims to promote the broader South African region as an attractive destination for software innovation and investment.
It adds that Software Week also aims to highlight the importance of software skills in the global knowledge economy, and to broaden the opportunities for ICT entrepreneurs, professionals and youths.
Although the focus of the inaugural 2012 event is on the software industry in Cape Town and the Western Cape, the agenda over the coming years is to promote the broader South African and African software industries and the region as a global destination for software development.
“It is our aim that the Western Cape be recognised for its software industry along with other sectors such as tourism and agriculture,” says Roderick Lim Banda, co-chair of the CIO Forum.
The event includes a five-day exhibition, a three-day conference and a Software Industry Awards evening at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The weeklong event will also include software factory tours, training seminars, competitions and various activities and events to promote and create awareness of the software industry.
