Cisco chooses Datatec subsidiary as key distributor in Australia

Johannesburg, 27 Nov 2003

The Australian subsidiary of Datatec`s Westcon Group has been chosen by Cisco Systems as one of only two distributors that will continue to partner with the global networking giant in the Australian market.

LAN Systems, based in Sydney, has been a distributor to the Australian market since 1990. The company was chosen because it was able to provide a strategic fit to complement Cisco`s ambitions of high growth in advanced technologies within the high and mid-enterprise markets in that region. Cisco began its comprehensive decision-making process over a year ago.

Says Alan Marc Smith, president and CEO of Westcon Group, Inc: "We are delighted that Cisco Systems recognises LAN Systems as a key contributor to its continued success in the Australian region. We compliment Cisco`s integrity in proactively managing what must have been a very difficult decision-making process. At Westcon Group, our commitment to the Comstor platform in support of Cisco`s technologies, combined with our intimate knowledge of local markets, has continually opened new opportunities for solution providers as well as our long-standing vendor partners."

Nick Verykios, general manager of LAN Systems, added: "We are pleased to continue serving Cisco in the Australian region. Our success with Cisco is partly a result of our ability to maintain a loyal customer base of high and mid-enterprise customers. We continue to expand opportunities within this customer base, while attracting new customers who seek opportunities in growth markets like convergence and security."

Kip Cole, director of Channel and Commercial sales at Cisco Systems Australia and New Zealand, says Cisco has had a long and valuable relationship with LAN Systems.

"LAN Systems is a leading distributor of Cisco products in Australia and has demonstrated that it has a clear synergy with Cisco, particularly in its ability to service the commercial market and focus on advanced technologies such as IP telephony, wireless and security," says Cole.

For Craig Dower, Managing Director of NetStar Networks, a Sydney-based network services company, LAN Systems and the value it provides plays a critical part in his company`s go-to-market strategy. "LAN Systems` continued investments in deepening its technical expertise helps enhance our own engineering capabilities. As our customers look to us to provide solutions to complex problems, it is comforting to have a partner that can play a significant part in responding to those needs," says Dower.
