Cisco unveils CloudVerse

Networking giant Cisco has unveiled Cisco CloudVerse, its new branding for its cloud framework for building, managing and connecting public, private and hybrid clouds, eChannel Line reports.

It is centred on three elements: unified data centre, cloud intelligent network, and cloud applications and services.

“Until now, cloud technology resided in silos, making it harder to build and manage clouds, and to interconnect multiple clouds, posing critical challenges for many organisations,” Channel Insider quotes Padmasree Warrior, senior vice president of engineering and CTO at Cisco as saying.

“Cisco uniquely enables the world of many clouds, connecting people, communities and organisations with a business-class cloud user experience for the next-generation Internet. We are very pleased that many of the world's leading businesses and service providers are adopting CloudVerse as the foundation of their cloud strategies, and we look forward to partnering closely with them on their journey to a world of many clouds.”

According to eWeek, CloudVerse will use Cisco's Unified Data Center, which consists of Cisco networking and application servers, EMC storage, VMware virtualisation and BMC management software as a base platform.

As its contribution to CloudVerse, BMC will be releasing an upgraded cloud service management director, integrated into the branded Cisco Network Service Manager 5.0, at the end of the month that includes a new application programming interface (API) for customers, something it did not have in its pilot programme.
