Linksys, a division of Cisco Systems, has entered SA to target the rapidly growing small and medium enterprise (SME) market.

Linksys is a global manufacturer of , and hardware for home and small office/home office environments.

Steve Midgley, director of operations, commercial business for Cisco Systems SA, says the entry of Linksys into the South African market is significant as it brings a new angle to the competition.

"While wireless technologies are still relatively young, the market is being saturated with products, all offering similar functionality, from various vendors - so much so that there are no real differentiating factors between the products on offer," says Midgley.

"What differentiates Linksys from the competition is that Linksys` products span numerous applications, including security, home entertainment and traditional wireless LAN."

The company says its wired and wireless networking products are already available locally.

Its products include 802.11b and 802.11g local area network and router solutions, switches, access points and a new range of multimedia devices for the wireless home. The product line also offers Ethernet and Gigabit switches, network adapters, print servers, network storage, KVM and USB devices.
