Virtualisation solutions provider Citrix Systems has appointed Simon McCullough as channel manager for Citrix Southern Africa.

McCullough's first task will be to develop local and deliver incentive programmes and training in the channel network.

According to Citrix, McCullough brings more than 11 years of technology sales experience, and will focus on building the vendor's and distributor base for Southern Africa.

McCullough will manage the Citrix Spearhead Programme designed to provide partners and their customers access to desktop virtualisation technologies.

He identified cloud computing and the consumerisation of IT as some of the biggest opportunities in the market for Citrix to capitalise on.

“We are seeing a huge drive of consumerisation of IT, as more executives come into the office with their iPads. Rising travel costs are going to be a major driver for people to work from their consumer device from wherever they are,” he says.

According to McCullough, the reduction in costs is not only being addressed by telcos. “Citrix is driving new technologies to improve bandwidth performance and reduce costs.”

McCullough says one of the biggest challenges in his new role will be to develop and train partners. “I've got a big daunting task ahead of me; however, we've now got a strong team at Citrix and we are looking to grow that.”

McCullough, who has a strong technical and pre-sales background, says he's specialised in Citrix products for 11 years and is a certified Citrix solution architect.

Prior to joining Citrix, he was senior virtualisation specialist with Gijima.

McCullough's channel track record includes appointments at Troye Computer Systems, Open Architecture Systems, Workgroup and Westcon.
