Citrix has acquired Sanbolic, a company that provides virtual storage optimisation, a move that could make it easier for Citrix users to use applications and virtual desktops spread across data centres and clouds.
The Sanbolic team will join the Citrix organisation immediately. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Sanbolic technology enables enterprises to optimise data management across any type of infrastructure. - improving storage load balancing, application availability and delivering the highest-performance end-user experience.
In a statement, Citrix says it plans to integrate Sanbolic's portfolio with its XenDesktop, XenApp and XenMobile products to develop a range of differentiated solutions.
The company explains the solutions will reduce the complexity of Windows application delivery and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) deployments.
"Infrastructure complexity continues to hinder VDI and application delivery deployments. By leveraging Sanbolic technology with XenDesktop and XenApp, Citrix is able to address this problem head-on, delivering to our customers solutions that simplify the infrastructure and reduce the overall cost of deployment and management," says Geir Ramleth, senior vice-president and chief strategy officer at Citrix.
Enterprises will now be able to deploy virtual apps and VDI across their organisations, while guaranteeing workload service level agreements through the platform's enhanced quality of service.
"There are tremendous synergies between our companies. With our server-side and converged storage management solutions and Citrix desktop and app virtualisation technology, we enable enterprise data and workloads to be highly available and elastic, based on changing business demands," says Momchil Michailov, CEO and co-founder of Sanbolic.
