Citrix improves XenServer 6 for cloud
As a key component of the Citrix cloud computing and virtualisation strategy, XenServer 6 brings new optimisations and improved scalability and performance for cloud infrastructure, desktop virtualisation and networking.
According to Cloud Tweaks, the latest version boasts full integration of Open vSwitch, a core technology used to build next-generation cloud networks based on the innovative OpenFlow standard.
“With every release of XenServer, more customers are realising that the vast majority of their workloads do not require the expense and complexity of VMware vSphere,” says Peder Ulander, VP of product marketing, Cloud Platforms Group, Citrix.
Citrix has added HDX enhancements to XenServer 6 to improve the user experience in virtual desktop environments, notes V3.co.uk.
With the Xen 4.1 hypervisor, XenServer can now make use of up to 1TB of memory on the host machine, and support virtual machines with up to 16 virtual CPUs and 128GB memory each.
