Citrix Systems, Inc, the global leader in access infrastructure solutions, today announced that it will work with Intel through its Mobilised Software Initiative (MSI) to enable enterprises and independent software vendors to deploy applications for mobile devices.
Citrix and Intel will work with organisations in the finance, education, healthcare and government sectors to architect mobile solutions that leverage the benefits of the Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite and make it easier for mobile users to access applications on devices powered by Intel, eg the Intel Centrino Mobile Technology.
Citrix is demonstrating its solutions at CeBIT taking place in Hanover, Germany.
The Intel Mobilised Software Initiative sets out to provide software developers with a comprehensive set of software tools, services, architecture specifications and training programmes to help enhance the mobile user experience and ensure maximum productivity while on the move. Citrix access infrastructure provides a secure, single point of access to enterprise applications and information on demand, while ensuring a consistent user experience on any platform, over any network.
Organisations are already benefiting from mobile deployment of applications and information via Citrix access infrastructure.
Speaking at the Citrix Systems press conference at CeBIT, Erik Steeb, Director of Intel Architecture Marketing, EMEA, said: "The Intel Mobilised Software Initiative sets high standards for applications that can function effectively in a mobile environment.
"The Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite provides software developers and enterprises with an efficient, more secure solution that gives users reliable and consistent access to applications and information from Intel-powered devices."
"Intel's wireless platforms are driving a global trend towards mobility that will see ever greater numbers of organisations connecting employees to back-end systems while on the move," said Stefan Sjostrom, Vice-President EMEA, Citrix Systems. "Software developers and enterprises alike need to have a comprehensive information access strategy to ensure that mobility projects bring the productivity gains they promise. We look forward to working with Intel and its Mobilised Software Initiative partners."
The Intel Centrino Mobile Technology enhances mobile working with integrated wireless LAN technology, breakthrough mobile performance; it also enables extended battery life, and thinner, lighter device designs. The Citrix MetaFrame Access Suite helps software developers and enterprises mobilise applications in four key areas:
* Intelligent connectivity: The MetaFrame Access Suite works with the full range of wired and wireless networks, including Ethernet, ISDN, dial-up, wireless LAN, and cellular networks. Users are shielded from the complexity of connectivity issues by automatic reconnect functionality and the ability to synchronise and work offline.
* Offline data management: Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager 2.2, the latest addition to the MetaFrame Access Suite, enables offline working by seamlessly supporting remote e-mail and file synchronisation.
* Multiple platform support: One of the key benefits of Citrix access infrastructure is its ability to manage heterogeneity through central deployment of the widest range of IT services, including Windows, Unix and browser- and Web-based applications and information, to any platform, including Intel XScale and Intel Centrino Mobile Technology-based PDAs, smartphones, Tablets and laptops.
* Power and performance optimisation: Citrix software will also leverage the power of Intel`s client and server platforms to make the most efficient use of processing power, according to the task being carried out. Mission-critical applications and data are processed centrally, eliminating the need to transfer or download entire applications over wireless networks, reducing demand for costly bandwidth and improving the security of data. Citrix has also previously demonstrated an upcoming technology, code-named RAVE, which utilises local processing power to enhance the performance of and reduce bandwidth requirements for streaming video and audio.
Citrix is demonstrating its latest software upgrade release, MetaFrame Secure Access Manager 2.2, in its booth, B29 in Hall 3. For more information on the Intel Mobilised Software Initiative, please visit: http://www.MobilisedSoftware.com, or visit the Intel booth at CeBIT, A46 in Hall 2.
