Citrix Systems, Inc, a global leader in virtual workplace software and services, has announced an agreement with Symbol Technologies, Inc, a global leader in mobile data management systems and services. Together, the companies will enable workforce mobility solutions for their customers in a variety of industries.
"These solutions will provide virtual access to any application or information at any time, from any location, using Symbol devices," says Chris Norton, channel manager for Citrix South Africa.
Symbol has become a Premier-level member of the Citrix Business Alliance (CBA), expanding joint marketing and sales opportunities for both companies, and Citrix is now a strategic software partner for Symbol.
Citrix and Symbol plan to work together to develop technical product integrations between Citrix MetaFrame XP and Symbol`s wireless PocketPC devices, optimising the performance of the two companies` offerings. In addition, the companies have entered into an arrangement to engage each other`s channels. Citrix will train Symbol channel partners to integrate and resell Citrix`s industry-leading MetaFrame XP application server software into a workforce mobility solution based on Symbol products.
"In order to maintain a competitive advantage in an increasingly mobile world, customers need solutions that allow them to cost-effectively boost their productivity. To meet this requirement, vendors must form partnerships that increase their individual value propositions," said Norton. "The relationship between Citrix and Symbol indicates a commitment from both companies to give joint customers the ability to optimise their application access and get more out of their IT investments."
"We`re seeing scenarios where Citrix`s technology can be an important piece of the complete workforce mobility solution that our customers demand," said Elaine Henderson, director of software marketing, Symbol Technologies. "Customers in a wide variety of industries rely on our products in mission-critical operations. Whether it`s a warehouse or retail store, there are customers that can benefit from the capabilities of MetaFrame XP - including enhanced management and accessibility of applications, improved security and other significant benefits associated with server based computing."
Citrix MetaFrame XP helps organisations "virtualise" today`s digital office by providing secure, reliable, cost-effective access to Windows, Unix or Web applications on any device, over any network. Based upon the creation and integration of bar code scanning, mobile computing and wireless LAN technologies, Symbol`s systems and products are used to increase productivity from the factory floor to the retail store, to the enterprise and out to the home. Integrating Symbol`s devices with MetaFrame XP allows customers to benefit from flexibility in their mobile application access.
"Forming an alliance with Symbol is a logical step for Citrix because both companies have similar goals - we`re committed to enabling customers with essential tools to get their jobs done efficiently," said Norton. "Working together, we can extend access far beyond the traditional office environment to increase user productivity."
Today, some 10 million Symbol bar code scanners, mobile computers and wireless LANs are used worldwide in markets ranging from retailing to transportation and distribution logistics, manufacturing, parcel and postal delivery, government, healthcare and education.
