At the local launch of Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Citrix Systems will give customers a sneak preview of its upcoming Citrix XenApp for Windows Server 2008.
Citrix XenApp, the company's flagship application virtualisation product line - previously known as Citrix Presentation Server - delivers Windows-based applications with performance, security and cost savings.
As a pavilion launch partner, Citrix will demonstrate its support for Windows Server 2008 across its entire end-to-end virtualisation product line as part of the worldwide launch tour.
XenApp is currently in beta testing with major Citrix and Microsoft customers worldwide. Early results show that it continues to be the most agile and flexible way to manage and deliver all Windows-based applications. By supporting both Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008, XenApp will enable customers to migrate to Windows Server 2008 allow for mixed environments that use existing IT investments in server hardware and software throughout the transition.

Microsoft and Citrix have also extended their alliance for server virtualisation enabling IT departments to run heterogeneous hypervisor software. Citrix is developing a capability to enable the portability of virtual machines between the Xen hypervisor in Citrix XenServer and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.
"This capability will offer the companies' joint customer base a unified portfolio of virtual infrastructures that utilises both Hyper-V and the Xen hypervisor under a common System Center management platform," said Nick Keene, country manager, Citrix Systems Southern Africa. "The XenServer product line combines comprehensive server virtualisation capabilities with scalability, performance and ease-of-use. Citrix's end-to-end virtualisation strategy includes a strong shared alliance with Microsoft and a commitment to continued innovation on the Windows platform."
