City of Cape Town emergency centre set for 2010 with world-class VOIP, contact centre solution

Johannesburg, 09 Sep 2009

The City of Cape Town awarded its technical infrastructure upgrade project to ATIO, a specialist ICT services provider. ATIO will provide the City of Cape Town with a world-class Nortel CS1000E VOIP platform, as well as to implement the latest Nortel contact centre technology.

“We are certain that this project will position the City of Cape Town at the forefront of world-class communication technology, and this will complement it's mandate towards local and international customer service delivery,” says Andre le Roux, MD of ATIO interactive division.

“This is in line with the city's preparations for 2010, to ensure that the city is ready, has sufficient operational and infrastructural capacity to deal with the 2010 Soccer World Cup developments and beyond,” says John Ellis, Manager: Public Emergency Communication Centre, Emergency Services, City of Cape Town.

“The project benefits are endless. The City of Cape Town's emergency call centre agents will be more equipped and knowledgeable to attend to consumers' questions, have the ability to determine the type of emergency service required, and successfully direct the calls to the relevant third-parties such as police, ambulance, fire or traffic services. All these will be through a single emergency number platform, 107.”

“We believe this project will certainly add more value to the city's emergency communication centre, as well as positively enhance the city's image as a world-class technology city,” concludes Ellis.

“As ATIO, we have confidence in our technical team's proven skills, experience and expertise in system integration, support and maintenance in similar projects undertaken in the past. It is this combination that will deliver integrated world-class communications to the local and international community during the 2010 world events,” concludes Le Roux.

According to Le Roux, similar Nortel architectural and communications technology infrastructure projects have been deployed in various locations, which also include the Coca Cola Park in Johannesburg. Nortel has also been selected to provide the IT infrastructure for the Olympic Games in London for 2012.
