Civilization World comes to Facebook
For this game, players start out by growing their own city in Civ World. They will later be able to join up with others to become a nation and later a civilisation. It's like Civ, but cuter and easier and with way more friend invites and pop-up notices.
“Our team set out to create an exciting civilisation game for Facebook where, for the first time, players can join with their friends to build a powerful empire and rule the world,” says Sid Meier.
“Civilization World is a fun and engaging game that both fans of the series and fans of Facebook games will find immediately addictive, and we look forward to adding to the experience as the game continues to evolve in this dynamic new gaming world.”
According to PC Mag, the first version of Civilization debuted for the PC in 1991. Since then, the game has been iterated several times (the desktop edition is at Version 5, for both Windows and Mac) and has spread to other platforms.
In 2008, 2K Games released Civilization Revolution for the console market, and the game eventually found its way to the iPhone, too. Several spin-offs (among them Civilization IV: Colonization and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri) were released by various companies over the years. The theme song for Civilization IV even won a Grammy award.
CivWorld is technically free to play, but, like many Facebook apps, it integrates Facebook Credits as a payment system. Players can use credits to buy 'CivBucks,' which they can then use to purchase additional in-game features.
