Clickatell sets aggressive targets

Johannesburg, 17 May 2007

Global messaging company Clickatell plans to double its global revenue this financial year, while also doubling the size of its South African operations, says Deon Van Heerden, VP of Middle East and Africa (MEA) operations and SA's new country manager.

Van Heerden would not disclose how much the company expects to make in the current financial year. However, he says, the company generated millions of dollars in profits in the past couple of years and has set aggressive growth targets for this year. "Clickatell has been doubling its revenue year-on-year for the past couple of years."

Van Heerden says 80% of Clickatell's revenues are from the company's online business, while 20% is generated through the enterprise business in the UK, MEA and the US. In the coming year, the proportion of revenue is expected to change, with the enterprise business slated to account for 50% of revenues.

He adds that Clickatell has already seen good success on the African continent, but that success was limited to SA and the sub-Saharan region.

The plan is to grow the company's operations to the extent that enterprise revenues from the MEA region account for 30% of total enterprise revenues, he says. Clickatell does not plan to set up offices all over the continent. "We will go to market with a similar to what we used in the UK, which was through partnerships."

To support the business generated by these partnerships, the company plans to double the local staff complement from 90 to 190, Van Heerden says.
