Cloud-based security to triple by 2013
According to independent analyst Gartner, security applications delivered as cloud-based services will more than triple by 2013, reports InfoWorld.
The firm said 20% of the revenue of messaging security tools, such as anti-malware and anti-spam services for e-mail and instant messaging, currently comes through the cloud delivery model. But this will jump to 60% by 2013.
Popular on-demand enterprise applications, such as those provided by Salesforce.com, are allowing mobile workers to bypass the corporate network to access business data. Gartner said this will force security teams to put controls between mobile workers and cloud-based services.
UK firms battle with app support
According to a recent study, major UK companies are struggling with application support management, says ihotdesk.
Research carried out by database manager Quest Software indicates two-thirds of firms do not use third-party application performance management tools for their critical applications, while one-fifth say they cannot afford to run them and 17% are not aware such tools exist.
Hugh McEvoy, manager of product and application management at the group, said: "The research shows that the majority of organisations are not using toolsets which enable them to satisfy their key criteria of allowing different users to see the same data in different ways."

According to the acquisition agreement, ADSL has acquired the IT infrastructure managed services business for an equity valuation of $30 million.
This acquisition is revenue and earnings accretive to ADSL and is expected to strengthen the opportunity pipeline for the company in the US market for its remote service offering and provide a platform for several other inorganic growth initiatives across the globe.
