CM sector set for twists
Vendors of enterprise content management (ECM) tools and other business software firms are bracing for more mergers in the wake of IBM`s agreement to buy FileNet, according to Computing.co.uk.
The $1.6 billion IBM-FileNet deal is likely to pave the way for yet more consolidation in the ECM sector, the article says.
That change, it adds, will turn the spotlight on rivals, including Open Text, which recently agreed to purchase Hummingbird, but also Oracle and Microsoft, both of which have been developing ECM capabilities.
Zimbra unveils a Web 2.0 CMS
Content management systems (CMS) vendor Zimbra has announced the launch of the Zimbra Collaboration Suite 4.0, which includes Zimbra Documents - a Web 2.0 application for securely creating, sharing and publishing documents, spreadsheets and folders.
The Gilbane Report writes the other new features of the collaboration suite include "over the air synchronisation for a wide range of mobile devices; the ability to customise the Zimbra user interface with your own brand, look and feel; and easier management of large-scale deployments".
Zimbra Documents allows users to create and share documents and spreadsheets using a simple WYSIWYG editor in the browser, then share them internally, send them in an e-mail, or publish them externally with a simple URL.
CM goes mobile
Mobile communication software company FutureDial has announced the release of Snap Series II, a new generation of cellphone CM and Web access software products for cellphone users.
"SnapSync II enables users to upload, synchronise, and download phonebooks and calendars between cellphones and PCs, while SnapMedia II lets users upload, edit, and download pictures and ringtones between cellphones and PCs," explains ThomasNet`s Industrial Newsroom.
With SnapDialer II, users can utilise cellphones as wireless modems for PCs to access Internet from anywhere, at anytime, without WiFi connection; and finally SnapScan II has a portable scanner to scan business cards into Outlook Express and IBM Lotus Notes on PC.
