Cnectd selected as finalist in BlackBerry category for GetJar 'Gettie Awards 2010'

Johannesburg, 19 Jul 2010

MCI Consultants, a leading provider of software solutions, today announced it had been selected as a finalist within the BlackBerry category for The Gettie Awards 2010, the mobile application world's equivalent of the Oscars, hosted by GetJar.

The Gettie Awards honours the successes and innovations of the best application developers across all major platforms from around the world. Developers have an opportunity to showcase their work in front of industry luminaries, investors, technology press and peers at this prestigious event.

Cnectd, developed by MCI, is a mobile messaging and social networking application for smartphones. Cnectd lets you chat across iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Symbian devices. In addition, Cnectd allows you to find new friends in your area, share media with your contacts and more. Cnectd alerts users of new messages instantaneously, ensuring you'll never miss a message and making sure you're always cnectd!

“We were ecstatic to be chosen as a finalist for the Getties,” commented Greg Bernard, Business Partner and architect of Cnectd. “It's an honour to be recognised by industry luminaries and the number one cross-platform app store.”

The Gettie Awards

This year, The Gettie Awards took place in conjunction with the first evening of VentureBeat's annual MobileBeat Conference, on 12 July 2010, at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California.

The Gettie Awards had an overwhelming 7 000 nominations from more than 100 countries. Seven total awards were presented to the winners within the following categories:

* Best Android application
* Best BlackBerry application
* Best iPhone application
* Best Java application
* Best Symbian application
* Best Windows Mobile application
* The Gettie Award for best overall application

“The response from the mobile application developer community to The Getties has been incredible,” added Patrick Mork, CMO of GetJar. “The talent, innovation, and diversity in applications we've seen across all mobile platforms truly speaks to the fact that the mobile applications industry is global and cross-platform. We were excited to showcase and honour the rising stars of the mobile development community at an awards event that is designed to recognise the achievements of those who are really driving this industry forward, ie, application developers.”
