Cognos, Intentia announce local strategic alliance

Johannesburg, 22 Aug 2001

Mirroring the existing global partnership, business intelligence solutions provider, Cognos, and e-collaboration solutions provider, Intentia, have signed a local agreement, in which Intentia will resell several Cognos products alongside its enterprise application.

"Intentia offers an e-collaboration solution built for the Internet, featuring industry-specific functionality and strong expertise," says Peter Gerson, MD of Cognos SA. "The alignment of Cognos` and Intentia`s technologies provides the marketplace with a robust and agile solution that is quick and easy to implement.

"Intentia`s offering goes beyond software technology to a true and effective business solution, that will enable us to broaden both our geographic and vertical industry reach," adds Gerson.

"Cognos products are in use by Intentia customers throughout the world. Cognos and Intentia partner in most of the 45 countries in which Intentia products are available," comments Kevin Dix, MD of Intentia locally. "In part, the philosophy of our own Business Performance Warehouse is based on Cognos` strategy "24 Ways". We will resell Cognos products, particularly PowerPlay, Impromptu and Scenario with our enterprise application."

Dix continues: "The Intentia application is client-server, metadata-centric, to support trend analysis and queries against massive amounts of data. To deliver digestible information from this, the Cognos solution provides our clients with excellent graphic visualisation, query and trend analysis tools, in an easy-to-use multi-dimensional format.

"Our customers have used Cognos products to achieve bottom line business benefits," continues Dix, "For example, improved margins from highly visible sales, margin and delivery performance information and higher stock turns by using multi-dimensional analyses and trends of inventory holdings. Moreover, there can be tighter receivables control by monitoring different views of DSO, and the ability to produce elegant and powerful analysis of information without disproportionate IT effort.

"We have used Cognos products to great effect in local companies. Our consulting staff enjoy using Cognos for business performance measurement, and our clients are happy with the results. I am pleased to cement the extensive relationship between Cognos and Intentia a little further here in SA," he concludes.
