Tests have proven Cognos`s version 1.1 of its ReportNet product to be "massively scalable" in a truly concurrent user environment, with mission-critical response times for Web-based content navigation, report viewing and report execution to 190 000 named users.
A number of successive tests were conducted at the IBM Solution Partner Centre lab in California, where the product also demonstrated excellent performance in other large deployment simulations ranging from 20 000 to 50 000 named users on a 16-CPU Windows configuration. In production reporting tests, ReportNet demonstrated outstanding throughput results that yielded 78 pages per second or 6,7 million report pages per day. These batch-reporting tests were based on a 26-page PDF report.
"The tests ran on multiple hardware configurations, including IBM eServer xSeries and IBM eServer BladeCenter, and drew directly from an IBM DB2 Universal Database and IBM WebSphere Application Server," says David McWilliam, MD of Cognos in SA. "The results underlined ReportNet`s superiority in the enterprise reporting market, offering scalability to hundreds of thousands of users, ease of use and a low total cost of ownership.
McWilliam says Cognos`s strategic partnership with IBM is driving business value throughout its customers` organisations, extending the reach of business intelligence (BI) solutions into new and emerging markets.
"The power of the IBM middleware and server platforms in conjunction with the mission-critical, user-friendly performance of Cognos ReportNet, delivers key competitive advantage and time to value to our customers. A longstanding IBM Partner, Cognos is laying the infrastructure to help its customers achieve the vision of delivering information on demand," says Janet Perna, GM, DB2 Information Management Solutions, IBM Software.
Cognos ReportNet supports IBM technologies including IBM WebSphere Internet infrastructure software, IBM WebSphere Portal software, IBM DB2 Intelligent Miner, Information Integrator, DB2 database and DB2 Cube Views for BI and enterprise operating systems such as IBM AIX and is available on IBM eServer pSeries and xSeries systems.
Cognos ReportNet is fully integrated within the Cognos Enterprise BI solution, including flexible scorecards, dashboards, OLAP analysis, event detection and alerting, and data integration.
First Citizens Bank in the US states that Cognos ReportNet has helped the bank to increase efficiency and better serve its customers.
"Even after only a few months in production, Cognos ReportNet, in conjunction with IBM DB2, has allowed us access to important data to enhance our ability to manage customer relationships, allowing us streamline our product set and improve our customer service," says LaQuita Hudson, VP of decision support at First Citizens Bank. "First Citizens also benefits from the richness of the Cognos Enterprise BI (EBI) Series, providing quite literally a one-stop shop for BI."
In April, Cognos and IBM announced a multi-year global agreement to market comprehensive BI offerings. Under the terms of the agreement, IBM and Cognos will jointly market and sell integrated solutions to numerous verticals and lines of business such as sales, marketing and human resources.
Cognos is an advanced member of IBM`s PartnerWorld for Developers, is certified as IBM Total Storage Proven, and is an IBM Server Proven partner.
